Membrane Biocides

Description

Contaminants such as iron, manganese, silica, and organic matter retained by reverse osmosis (RO) membranes also serve as nutrient sources for bacteria. When bacteria present in the feed water are trapped by the membranes, they begin to reproduce on the membrane surfaces with the help of these nutrients. Therefore, disinfection of the membranes becomes necessary. Since RO membranes are not resistant to chlorine, biocides specifically designed for membranes must be used for the disinfection process.
